Jim Tipp BVSc MRCVS
Jim is orginally from Shropshire and lived near the Wrekin as a boy. He graduated from Bristol University in 1987 and then worked in large animal and equine practice in Macclesfield in Cheshire before moving to Fyrnwy Equine Clinics in 1990. Jim is married with two daughters. who have both enjoyed time in the pony club. Jim really enjoyed show jumping in his youth and has hunted. He currently owns ‘Jack’, the family's retired section A pony. Jim's hobby now is mountain biking – downhill & crosscountry, at which he has competed nationally. Best so far is a British Cycling 3rd place glass trophy!
Jim has an interest in surgery and in particular colic surgery.
Mark Baines BVSc MRCVS
Mark graduated from Liverpool University in 1992. He then spent 4 years in mixed practice in South Wales before spending a year in Sicily, in Italy. Here he specialised in equine reproduction doing a lot of A.I. with frozen semen.
Mark then joined Fyrnwy Equine Clinics in 1998 and became a partner in 2001.
Mark's interests are in equine reproduction and equine dentistry. He has enrolled with the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) to sit a dentistry exam in Feb 2012 to qualify as a certified EDT (Equine Dental Technician).
David Jagger BVSc MRCVS
David graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1971. He spent a post graduate year studying equine anaesthesia at the university. He then spent seven years working as an assistant in mixed practice in Shrewsbury.
In 1979 he joined Rhis Owen to form Fyrnwy Equine Clinic and has been part of the practice ever since.
Outside appointments include working on the doncaster sales veterinary panel, Chief Veterinary Officer for the Royal Agricultural Society, lecturer for the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) pre-purchase examination workshops, veterinary examiner for the Worshipful Company of Farriers (WCF), veterinary surgeon for Uttoxeter racecourse and numerous point to point meetings.
Outside of work David enjoys riding and keeping poultry.
Richard Quan-Taylor BSc BVetMed MRCVS
Dick qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the Royal Veterinary College in 1975. His early career involved general practice in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire and the large equine part of the practice promoted his interest for involvement with horses. This was increased during the time he worked in North Yorkshire. Although being involved with all facets of equine practice, Dick gravitated to building up the reproductive side of the practice and also latterly, the use of the laser in various conditions in the horse.
Dick is married with two daughters and two grandchildren. His interests involve walking, bird watching, and travelling, especially if there is some historical interest to see. Shropshire and Fyrnwy Equine Clinics have now been his home for 29 years and he says it is still a wonderful place to be.
Simon Woods BVSc MRCVS
Simon qualified from the University of Liverpool in 2006. During his time at univeristy in completed equine electives in equine orthopaedics and an externship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He joined Fyrnwy Equine Clinic straight from university and became a partner in 2010.
Simon's main interests are in surgery and orthopaedics, such as lameness examinations, poor performance and minimally invasive surgery. He is currently studying for a certficate in equine surgery (orthopaedics) through the univeristy of liverpool, and hopes to take the exam in Jan/Feb 2012. Simon also officates at many British Eventing events including many one day events, and Osberton and Weston Park International Three Day Events.
Outside of work, Simon lives with his girlfriend where they have 3 horses and one pony! He rides a little in his spare time and enjoys keeping fit, playing squash, running, with the aim to compete in his first triathalon in the summer of 2012.
John Spencer BVSc MRCVS
John graduated from the Univeristy of Bristol in 2007. Since then he has worked at Fyrnwy Equine Clinic and joined the partnership in 2011. He is a member of the stud medicine team and is responsible for AI using fresh chilled and frozen semen together with embryo transfer. He is also responsible for the management of visiting mares and foals at thoroughbred studs. His main interests include mare and stallion reproduction, investigation of poor performance and equine surgery. He is currently studying with the University of Liverpool to attain the certficate of advanced veterinary practice in equine soft tissue surgery.
John's interests outside of work include rowing at the Pengwern boat club in Shrewsbury and country pursuits.

Luke Edwards BVSc MRCVS
As a small boy Luke Edwards wanted either to be a cowboy or to drive a team of huskies to the South pole. Realising that he was born in the wrong century and on the wrong continent, his dog breeding father encouraged him to become a vet, hoping to get some free dog vaccines from him! Luke agreed despite having never read a single James Herriot book.
After qualifying from Bristol Vet school in 1996, he worked in Nottinghamshire and Devon before joining Fyrnwy Equine Clinics in 2001. Luke is currently studying for a certificate in advanced veterinary practice in equine practice. (His father is still waiting for free dog vaccines!)
Nichola Steel BVM&S Cert AVP (EM) MRCVS
Nichola qualified from Edinburgh in 1999. Having ridden and owned horses from a young age she was always keen to work with horses. After a year in mixed practice she moved to a equine practice in Newbury where she worked for two and a half years before leaving to travel around South America.
She moved to Shropshire in 2003 and joined Fyrnwy Equine Clinic that same year. She has a keen interest in internal medicine and gained a certificate in advanced veterinary practice in equine medicine in 2011.
Charlotte Rogers BVSc MRCVS
Charlotte is originally from Lancashire. She graduated from the university of Liverpool and then spent four years in a mixed practice in Worcestershire before moving to Fyrnwy Equine Clinic in 2007. She currently lives in Cheshire with her three horses and three terriers, which can often be seen out on calls with her.
Charlotte has a particular interest in anaesthesia and analgesia. In her spare time she enjoys riding, especially dressage, walking the dogs and visiting country pubs.
Elizabeth Baldwin BVetMed MRCVS
Liz is orginally from Shropshire and attended the Royal Veterinary College in London. She joined the practice in 2007 and has developed an interest in medicine. She is currently studying towards a certficate in equine internal medicine which she hopes to complete in 2012.
In her free time she enjoys riding, especially dressage and skiing once a year.
