Fyrnwy Equine Group is a well-established two practice, 19 vet, 100% equine RCVS accredited practice covering Shropshire, Cheshire and mid/north Wales. The main clinic is situated near Shrewsbury and houses a fully equipped surgical and inpatient facility with a large first opinion and diplomat led referral service.
Our BEVA recognised internship programme has two intakes each year with start dates in July and December. We offer an internship with a difference that rotates between clinic, ambulatory and emergency on call, all fully supported by senior veterinary surgeons.
Week 1:
Clinic - providing inpatient care, assisting with surgery, performing general anaesthesia, lameness work ups (proficiencies achieved in local and regional anaesthesia), diagnostic imaging including MRI, ultrasonography, digital wireless radiography, endoscopy, gastroscopy etc. Lab diagnostics and interpretation. Shared clinic on call.
Week 2:
Ambulatory - caring for patients out on the road, routine visits including vaccinations, dentals, passporting etc. During the season attending stud and assisting the stud vet. Attending emergencies, colics, wounds, acute onset lameness etc. Responsibility for own cases seen on the road encouraged. Continuity of cases seen when referring into clinic.
Week 3:
Clinic - as above, shared clinic on call.
Week 4:
Ambulatory - on call, Covering out of hours 5pm to 8am for the road (off during the day). Dedicated and experienced second on call vet to support and advise on calls.
Our referral caseload is overseen by European and American Specialists in Equine Medicine and Equine Surgery and offers a full spectrum of routine and emergency services.
In addition to the clinical caseload our interns attend fortnightly journal clubs and monthly textbook rounds as well as undertaking a programme of practical tutorials throughout the internship period.
